Abel Tasman Sea Shuttles launch their 25 metre purpose built catamaran the Abel Tasman Crusader this month. The $1.2m, 150 seat vessel built by and for Abel Tasman Sea Shuttle will take visitors directly from Nelson to the Abel Tasman National Park via Kaiteriteri Beach.
The project is the realisation of the companies vision to allow visitors without a vehicle to visit the Park without having to make the two hour bus journey.
Where others have tried this before none have purpose designed a vessel for the Job. “We believe that by supplying a run directly to Kaiteriteri at a competitive price and faster than by bus we are giving people a much more enjoyable experience” says Keith Knapp, owner of Abel Tasman Sea Shuttle.
Abel Tasman Sea Shuttle commissioned the new vessel designed specifically for crossing Tasman Bay and servicing the Abel Tasman National Park. The boat has been under construction in their own workshop in Motueka since early May. Designed by Barnett Offshore Design and construction lead by engineers Keith Knapp and Paul Smith the project has been completed in astonishing speed, running 7 days a week.
NALCO has supplied the aluminium sheet, plate and extrusion for the project as well as profile cutting sheet and plate on our CNC router.
